Traditional Web Pages vs. Blogs
Well this is the first blog I have ever posted! Hooray! I have read and seen a few live blogs from sporting events, but never actually created one so there is a first time for everything. From the little experience I have and what I have seen so far, a blog is more useful as a journal or update of specific events, ideas, or occurrances. It seems as though it is intended as a form of communication that one can use to provide updates, current events, or even a personal log of ideas or shared thoughts. A traditional web page is often used more as a tool for research, data, or condensed form of business / professional communication. The web page may provide updates, sales, data, or information necessary for someone to connect to or follow a particular professional, educational, or entertainment based group. The blog seems more "personal opinion" and less "fact based" than what I would imagine that a typical web page might be. From what little I have seen, the blog seems useful in sharing ideas in an analytical context, rather than a knowledge / data based web page. I have followed a sports blog that was being created by a sports writer who was "blogging" a particular big game. It was interesting to follow, immediate feedback, and also contained opinions and ideas about the players, referees, and coaching. I am interested to be able to not only create this blog, but to follow and comment on the blogs written by the members of my team.
